Zcash separates transaction construction, shielded proofs, and spend authorization. Cryptograph keeps the final authority on Apple Watch.

  1. 01The iPhone sends a redacted PCZT containing the information required for review and signing.
  2. 02Apple Watch verifies recipients, values, fees, pool movements, and any readable memo.
  3. 03The watch reconstructs shielded commitments and checks that transaction values balance.
  4. 04Spending keys are derived and used on Apple Watch. The iPhone adds proofs and broadcasts afterward.

Network-specific security

Spend authority and viewing are separated.

The iPhone holds a Unified Full Viewing Key so it can find shielded notes and show your balance. That viewing key cannot authorize a spend.

Apple Watch holds the Zcash spending authority. The watch verifies the PCZT before approval and signs only after you decide.

Current limit

A compromised iPhone can expose Zcash balances and history.

Zcash is different from the other supported networks because private transaction data must be scanned with a viewing key. The iPhone can see that history, but it cannot spend ZEC without Apple Watch.
